🎆 Stars, Stripes & Summer Nights
Friday, July 31 | 6–9 p.m.
Antrim Township Community Park, Greencastle
Antrim Township and the Heart of Antrim will celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with an evening of family activities at Antrim Township Community Park.
The celebration is expected to include food trucks, bounce houses, obstacle courses, touch-a-truck activities, hayrides, live entertainment, and a fireworks finale after dark.
The park is located at 12315 Grant Shook Road in Greencastle.
🪄 Wizarding Weekend
Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1 | Downtown Waynesboro
Downtown Waynesboro will once again transform into a world of magic as Mainstreet Waynesboro presents its 10th annual Wizarding Weekend.
Friday’s activities include a ticketed wizard-themed pub crawl, while Saturday brings a larger schedule of mostly free family activities.
Visitors can expect costumes, vendors, magic shows, trivia, crafts, special downtown activities, and a showing of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
Wizarding Weekend began as a smaller downtown event in 2017 and has since grown into one of Waynesboro’s most recognizable annual celebrations.
🎷 Jazz in the Garden
Friday, July 31 | 6–8:30 p.m.
NETwork Community Garden, Chambersburg
NETwork Ministries will host its annual Jazz in the Garden gathering at its community garden near the Southgate area of Chambersburg.
The free open-house event will include live jazz, food, artwork, performances, and an opportunity to learn more about NETwork’s work with local young people.
Optional donations will support the organization’s youth and community programs.
The garden is located between Redwood, Buchanan, and South streets.
🎬 Outdoor Movie Night: Lilo & Stitch
Friday, July 31 | Activities at 7 p.m.; movie at dusk
Hagerstown City Park Band Shell
Families looking for an outdoor movie night can head south to Hagerstown for a free showing of Lilo & Stitch.
Pre-movie activities begin at 7 p.m., with the movie scheduled to begin around dusk.
Guests may bring blankets or lawn chairs, although seating is also available at the band shell. Concessions are expected to be available during the event.
The band shell is located at 501 Virginia Avenue in Hagerstown.
🎒 Back-to-School Kids Party and Backpack Giveaway
Saturday, August 1 | 9 a.m.–noon
Hub City Vineyard, Hagerstown
Hub City Vineyard will host a free back-to-school celebration featuring more than 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies while quantities last.
Additional resources are expected to include food, books, clothing, and free haircuts for children preparing to return to school.
The event will be held at 17805 Oak Ridge Drive in Hagerstown.
🛒 Saturday Farmers Markets
A weekend guide would not be complete without the area’s farmers markets.
Residents can spend Saturday morning shopping for seasonal produce, baked goods, flowers, handcrafted products, and other locally made items.
Possible stops include:
- North Square Farmers Market in Chambersburg.
- Market activities in Greencastle and Waynesboro.
- Local farm stands throughout Franklin County.
- Pennsylvania produce markets along the county’s rural roads.
Hours and vendor availability may vary, so checking with the individual market before traveling is recommended.
🌳 Looking for a Quieter Weekend?
There are also plenty of options for anyone who would rather avoid a large crowd.
Consider visiting:
- Cowans Gap State Park.
- Caledonia State Park.
- Long Pine Reservoir.
- Renfrew Museum and Park.
- The Franklin County Ice Cream Trail.
- Local farm markets.
- Downtown shops in Chambersburg, Greencastle, Waynesboro, Mercersburg, and Shippensburg.
Before You Go
Several of this weekend’s larger events are outdoors, so keep an eye on the weather and any announcements from organizers.
Fireworks, movie times, and outdoor activities may be delayed or changed if storms move through the area.
Wizarding Weekend may also bring heavier pedestrian and vehicle traffic to downtown Waynesboro. Arriving early and allowing additional time for parking is recommended.
Whether you are looking for fireworks, live music, family entertainment, local shopping, or a quiet afternoon outdoors, this weekend offers plenty of reasons to get out and explore Franklin County and beyond.
