CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Lackawanna College officially opened its new Chambersburg Center on Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by college officials, educators, local leaders, industry representatives, and members of the community.
The new center marks an expansion of the college’s workforce development efforts and will provide hands-on training opportunities in skilled trades, including welding and fabrication technology.
During the ceremony, speakers highlighted the growing demand for skilled workers across Pennsylvania and emphasized the importance of creating pathways that connect students directly to career opportunities. The new facility is designed to provide practical training using industry-standard equipment while helping meet workforce needs throughout Franklin County and the surrounding region.
Following the ribbon cutting, attendees got to see the facility and learn more about the programs being offered. Educators explained how students will gain hands-on experience in a training environment that mirrors real-world workplace conditions.
Representatives from local employers and industry organizations also participated in discussions about workforce development and the skills businesses are looking for in today’s job market. Questions from attendees focused on training opportunities, employer needs, and how the center can help prepare students for careers in the skilled trades.

The facility includes dedicated welding workstations and training areas intended to prepare students for careers in manufacturing, fabrication, construction, and related industries. College officials said the goal is to equip students with practical skills while strengthening the local workforce pipeline.

Supporters of the project believe the center will create new opportunities for students seeking alternatives to traditional four-year degree programs while helping employers address ongoing workforce challenges.
The opening of the Chambersburg Center represents another investment in career and technical education in Franklin County, offering students access to hands-on training and industry-focused instruction close to home.

Franklin County Life attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, spoke with college leadership, and got to see the new facility as part of the opening-day activities.
