Chambersburg’s Long Pine Run Reservoir may technically sit in Adams County, but this week it’s giving Franklin County residents something unexpected to talk about.

Despite Adams County currently being under a drought warning status, Chambersburg Borough Manager Jeffrey Stonehill shared Wednesday morning that the reservoir is now overflowing over the spillway.

According to Stonehill, the overflow began over the weekend and was still running about three inches over the spillway as of Tuesday.

For longtime local residents, that may come as a surprise considering how low the reservoir has looked at times in recent years.

Older photos from previous lower-water periods show large exposed shoreline areas and noticeably reduced water levels compared to current conditions.

Recent rainfall across the region likely helped refill the reservoir faster than many expected, even while drought concerns continue in surrounding areas.

The Long Pine Run Reservoir plays an important role in the Chambersburg area’s water system and is located in the South Mountain region of Adams County.

It’s one of those local details many people pass by or hear about occasionally — but moments like this quickly get attention, especially when drought warnings are still being discussed across the region.

Have you noticed local creeks, ponds, or reservoirs looking different lately around Franklin County?
