GREENSCASTLE, Pa. — Greencastle-Antrim’s historic PIAA Class 5A State Championship victory was met with a hero’s welcome Friday night as the Blue Devils returned home to a community eager to celebrate one of the greatest achievements in school history.

Following the team’s dramatic 6-5 victory over Dubois in a 14-inning marathon, residents lined the streets of Greencastle as police, firefighters, emergency personnel, and local officials coordinated an escort through town.

The championship game was one for the record books. According to PIAA District III, the contest became the longest PIAA baseball championship game in history, with Greencastle-Antrim finally securing the state title after 14 innings of play.

As the team returned home, the celebration extended well beyond the baseball field.

Greencastle-Antrim School District publicly thanked the many organizations that helped make the homecoming special, including Rescue Hose Company, MMP&W Fire Company, Antrim Township supervisors, Greencastle Police, Pennsylvania State Police, Franklin County Department of Emergency Services, and numerous volunteers and community members.

Antrim Township officials echoed that sentiment, noting that local and county agencies worked together to coordinate the championship escort. Fire apparatus provided a water cannon salute while emergency vehicles and police units helped guide the team through town.

The welcome-home celebration served as a reminder of how closely connected the Greencastle-Antrim community remains. Residents gathered along the route to cheer for players, coaches, and families who helped bring home the first state baseball championship in school history.

Among the players receiving attention was Landon Bishop, whom the district jokingly referred to as a “local celebrity” after a memorable championship experience that included a key catch, an ambulance ride, and still making it back to join his teammates for the ride home.

For one evening, the championship belonged not only to the players on the field, but to an entire community that rallied behind them throughout the season.

As the Blue Devils arrived back in Greencastle surrounded by flashing lights, cheering fans, and a hometown escort, the message was clear: this historic championship was a victory the entire community was proud to celebrate.

Congratulations to the Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devils on bringing home a state title and creating a moment that many in the community will remember for years to come.
